Remembering Bambini "Bambi"

On July 21, 2025, we lost one of our sweetest does, Bambini—better known around here as "Bambi." She was only three years old, but in that short time she made a lasting mark on our herd and our hearts.

Bambi was born on March 6, 2022, a bright, curious little Oberhasli who grew into a graceful, gentle doe. She had a way of making her presence known without demanding attention—soft eyes that seemed to read your thoughts, a quiet confidence, and that eager trot to the gate whenever she saw us coming with grain.

Her passing was as sudden as it was heartbreaking. Less than 12 hours after we noticed the first signs of mastitis, she was hospitalized with sepsis. Despite the best efforts to save her, she slipped away, leaving us shocked and heartbroken.

But Bambi's story doesn't end there. We were lucky enough for her to have left behind three beautiful daughters—each a piece of her—who now carry her place in our herd. In them, we see her gentleness, her beauty, and her spirit living on.

The barn feels different without her—quieter, a little emptier—but the memories of her are everywhere. She'll always be part of our story, and we'll carry her in our hearts, even as her daughters grow and take the lead she left behind.
